Masonic Education and Leadership Development (MELD) for the Fifth District
The Masonic Education and Leadership Development Directors are each appointed by the Grand Master, and operate under the control of the MELD Committee Chairman, Ruben Martinez.
C. Wayne Glass , David Herman and Randy Hazan are the Fifth District MELD Directors.
We are appointed to educate and train Georgia Masons. Rather than divide the district up into sections, feel free to contact any of us if we can be of assistance. We usually try to make team presentations anyway.
We report to the Assistant State Director for the Central Quadrant, Hendry Betts II, who reports on upwards. The full roster of MELD Committeemen are listed at the Grand Lodge MELD page.
The Masters and Wardens Workshops
These are a product of Grand Lodge. The Masonic Education and Leadership Development (MELD) Committee of Grand Lodge sets the time, place and conducts the programs. The 5th District Convention Officers assist when asked but they have no authority or responsibilities in these programs. All of that is controlled by the GM and his MELD committee.
Our 2008 Worshipful Masters and Wardens Workshops will be held from 9:00 am to Noon on Saturday, January 19th, at Kennesaw Lodge No. 33, 547 Roswell Street, Marietta, GA. 30060. The Grand Master's District Forum will begin at 1:00, and may be followed by the Senior DeMolay Degree (updates as more is known).
The Deacons and Stewards Workshops
These are also a product of Grand Lodge. In 1982, the 5th District organized and presented the first Stewards and Deacons Workshops, which Grand Lodge later adopted on a Statewide basis. Grand Lodge then changed the format, but allowed the 5th District to run its own program, which we still do. Not all districts use the same format.
Each District Deputy will select a date for the Deacons and Stewards Workshops in their sub-district, which the MELD committee will facilitate. In 2007, the workshop for sub-district B was held in February; those for sub-districts D and F were held in March (updates as more is known).
When scheduled by your District Deputy, we will come and present the Stewards and Deacons Workshop, designed to educate junior officers, prospective officers, and any other interested brethren by sharing the lessons learned by others who have gone this way before.
We also have a series of self-study courses available, and your MELD committee challenges every brother to become a better Mason by educating himself through these courses.
Except for Rules of Order, required study material can be borrowed from your Lodge library, purchased from your MELD committeemen, or purchased from the Grand Secretary through your Lodge Secretary; the Rules of Order Study Material must be downloaded by clicking on the download link below.
The Georgia Masonic Code Course (v2007) is designed to make the brethren familiar with the various sections of the Georgia Masonic Code. The current Code book, available from the Grand Secretary's office, is the reference work. Download the test.
The Georgia Masonic Etiquette Course is designed to instruct and remind the brethren with the many points of etiquette which, together, help preserve the peace and harmony of the lodge. The pamphlet "Masonic Etiquette", available from the Grand Secretary's office, is the reference work. Download the test.
The Georgia Masonic History Course is designed to do away with the misconceptions and guesswork about our past and traditions. "The Grand Lodge of Georgia Free and Accepted Masons 1786 - 1980", available from the Grand Secretary's office, is the reference work. Download the test.
The Georgia Masonic Rules of Order (or Parlimentary Procedure) Course is designed to help the brethren understand the proper procedure of conducting lodge business. Download the study material. Download the test.
The Georgia Masonic Manual Course is designed to help the brethren become more well versed with what is covered by the Manual. Download the test.
Brethren, these tests are designed to make you better Masons. They are not designed as a competition. The source material may be consulted during testing, and we encourage your lodge to form a study group, take the courses, and discuss the material together. Please feel free to contact Wayne Glass, David Herman or Randy Hazan if we can be of assistance.
