Fifth District General Information and Overview

The Fifth Masonic District of The Grand Lodge of Georgia represents 40 Masonic
Lodges in DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton and Rockdale counties (and one in Fayette). The District is home to four of the ten largest cities in Georgia: Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Roswell and Johns Creek. The District serves as a regional layer of support for our member lodges. |
The Fifth Masonic District Annual Communication is conducted by the Fifth District Officers for the purpose of uniting the Blue Lodges of the Fifth Masonic District. It is generally hosted by the Lodge which the District Master is a member. Other organizational and planning meetings for the officers and representatives are held throughout the year.
Our 105th Annual Communication was held on 12 September 2009 at the Atlanta Masonic Center, and was hosted by Fulton 216, where this year's slate of officers were elected and installed.
Our 106th Annual Communication is scheduled for 11 September 2010, and will be hosted by Sandy Springs 124 at 100 Johnson Ferry Road, NW, Sandy Springs, 30328. Registration begins at 8:00, the program begins at 9:00.
Below are listed many of the duties and responsibilities of the Fifth District. Georgia Masonic Code section 61-1 further details the purpose and operation of Masonic Districts.
District Program Listing
Provide a Degree Team to confer Blue Lodge Degrees
The Fifth Masonic District's Officers have in the past and will in the future assemble a Degree Team for conferring the Fellow Craft Degree at Blue Lodges in the Fifth District when requested through the Secretary.
Recognize the Fifth District "Mason of the Year"
Recognition of the Fifth Masonic District "Mason of the Year" is promoted by the District Convention but those recognized are done so only through the application of the Blue Lodges in the District. No application means no recognition. Please see the Annual Awards page for more detailed information.
Recognize the Fifth District "Lodge of the Year"

Conduct the Annual Family Picnic and Fund Raiser
This is hosted by a Lodge willing to allow their facilities to be used for the function. Please see the Family Day Picnic page for more detailed information.
Provide an Endowment Fund Committee and Chairman
The Fifth Masonic District Endowment Fund Chairman is appointed by the Grand Master. He operates under the control of the Grand Lodge Endowment Fund Committee Chairman.
James Tyroff is the Fifth District Endowment Fund Committee Chairman.
Provide a GACHIP Staff
The GACHIP Director is appointed by the Grand Master. He operates under the control of the Grand Lodge GACHIP Director. For more information about the GACHIP program, please visit their website.
The Fifth District GACHIP Director appointement is pending.
Provide a Masonic Home Trustee
The Masonic Home Trustee is elected by the members of the Fifth Masonic District at an annual Communication for a 3 year period of service. He is then approved by the Grand Master and the Masonic Home's Board of Trustees.
Brad Williams is the Fifth District Masonic Home Trustee.
Provide a Board of Relief Member
The Board of Relief Member is appointed by the Grand Master. The Fifth Masonic District confirms the appointment for a period of 3 years at the proper time during an Annual District Communication.
William T. Eleazer, Sr. is the Fifth District Board of Relief Member.
Provide a Trial Commission Staff
The Trial Commissioners are recommended by the Chairman of the District's Trial Commission Committee. They are elected for a period of 3 years at the proper time during an Annual District Communication.
Michael Kessler is the Chairman of the Fifth District Trial Commission.
